Apathetic Entrepreneurs (and what you can do if you are).

Reading an article on entrepreneur.com sent my pissed meter off the charts. It seems that “People get cynical and apathetic for good reason”.

While this may happen with long-time employees and some long-term contractors, it is NEVER acceptable for entrepreneurs. It’s an oxymoron. An abomination. All too common.

If you can’t get, and stay, excited about what your product or service does for your customers or clients, you need a to take a serious look at your vocation. Seriously.

So how do you stay excited about it? It is so simple it’s almost absurd. You share your story; about how your product changed someone’s life, or how your service helped alleviate someone’s pain. Share other people’s excitement and that will keep you excited. The benefit is that you’ll serve more people, earning more as a natural consequence, and have more success stories to tell.

Don’t tell me a story about why you can’t do more, sell more, earn more. Tell me a story about how someone’s life is better because you’re in it.

Start right where you are!

I hope you caught the double meaning of the title on today’s post. (if not, here’s what I meant):

Start right where you are = Start in the place you are and move forward.

Start RIGHT where you are = Start correctly and move forward.

They seem to contradict each other. How can I start the right way when I don’t always know what the correct way is? It’s easy when you go all the way back to the beginning. Take this example:

You have to go to the post office. The weather is rainy and cold. You can either stay dry inside (and not accomplish your goal) or prepare yourself to make the trek in the bad weather. You could head out without the proper apparel and catch a doozy of a cold – OR – you could don a raincoat and galoshes, grab your umbrella, and you make it to the post and back without suffering a single damp moment. The second way is much more enjoyable but if you don’t have an umbrella you’re gonna get wet.

So you’re saying “Todd, you spent way too much time inside thinking over the Holidays. Cut to the point!”

I’ve coached several team members in the last few days that made awesome goals for the year. When I asked them how they were going to accomplish them the reply was; “Well, as soon as I…”

Don’t wait. Start now and pick up the tools along the way on your journey. Success is waiting along the path.
