Potential; The difference in being a hero and not

potential po·ten·tial (pə-těn’shəl)
adj.
Capable of being but not yet in existence; latent.

Heroes do not have potential.

Heroes run when their legs shouldn’t be able to support them.

Heroes do the nitty-gitty things that cause normal people turn their eyes away or noses up.

Heroes get in the game even when the odds of success are stacked against them.

Heroes step up to the responsibility and teach, comfort, discipline and nurture our future.

Heroes get shit done. They are spent, exhausted, and they do it EVERY!  SINGLE!  DAY!

Do you have potential? How do you feel about that?

Nothing adds up!

Consistency is a funny thing. It’s one of those things that you can use for good or can be used against you for evil not so good.

I printed the following on a sheet of paper and hung it on my wall above my monitor to help keep me in line:

Is what I’m doing NOW the most effective use of my time?

Results, it’s what we get paid for.

Small actions, over time, add up – even if they’re inactions. If, at the end of the week, you have nothing to show for your efforts it’s because your daily actions have accumulated.

Start right where you are!

I hope you caught the double meaning of the title on today’s post. (if not, here’s what I meant):

Start right where you are = Start in the place you are and move forward.

Start RIGHT where you are = Start correctly and move forward.

They seem to contradict each other. How can I start the right way when I don’t always know what the correct way is? It’s easy when you go all the way back to the beginning. Take this example:

You have to go to the post office. The weather is rainy and cold. You can either stay dry inside (and not accomplish your goal) or prepare yourself to make the trek in the bad weather. You could head out without the proper apparel and catch a doozy of a cold – OR – you could don a raincoat and galoshes, grab your umbrella, and you make it to the post and back without suffering a single damp moment. The second way is much more enjoyable but if you don’t have an umbrella you’re gonna get wet.

So you’re saying “Todd, you spent way too much time inside thinking over the Holidays. Cut to the point!”

I’ve coached several team members in the last few days that made awesome goals for the year. When I asked them how they were going to accomplish them the reply was; “Well, as soon as I…”

Don’t wait. Start now and pick up the tools along the way on your journey. Success is waiting along the path.
