ROI = Return On Investment? Nope.

Quit worrying about how much technology (in general) and social media marketing (in particular) costs. The price has nothing to do with your investment.

Lately I’ve been talking with a LOT of business owners that are hyper-focused on what dollar amount they put on the check when engaging my services. Now, I’m not advocating spending all willy-nilly – you are responsible for your profitabilty, however, get over the number. Don’t worry about the ROI (as you know it) because it doesn’t matter anymore.

“Heresy!”, you say, “I have to get back $3 for every $1 spent on marketing or I’ll go out of business.”

Or even worse; “I’ll just do my __enter your favorite time sucking social media platform here__ page myself. ”

Bullpucky (Said in my best Col. Sherman T. Potter voice)

Quit using antiquated methods to measure your ROI. It’s like trying to bake a cake using drams and pennyweights – unless you’re from in the 14th century you’re probably going to be eating mud, clay or bricks.

By they way, ROI no longer stands for (R)eturn (O)n (I)nvestment. Nope. Officially, at least in my sphere of influence, it means Return on Interaction. Yep, you might have to actually talk to someone. At the very least you’re going to have to engage in a two-way, give-and-take conversation by email, chat, or phone.

You say, “you just told me not to do my own time sucking social media platform page. What’s up?” You interact with your leads/customers through your page NOT by spending hours and hours trying to create the perfect page or a few minutes creating a crappy one. Leave the page creation and optimization to the professionals – that’s what we do. Unless your job is to get paid creating profiles for other people go do what you do. You improve upon what we create for you and deliver your product or service with excellence, consistency, and timeliness. Hit that target and you’ll be paid handsomely*.

You have to accept and embrace this or else your potential, and current, customers/clients/employees are going to start a conversation with your competitors.

*From my very great friend and mentor Bob Burg; “Money isn’t the target. Money is the reward for hitting the target.”

Turning Over One More Rock

My goal for the next 30 days is to make one more call.

One extra call at the end of the day for one month.

One conversation that I wouldn’t have had had I “gone home” at the normal time.

I’ll let you know how that goes.

What are you doing to go that extra little bit to achieve the success you want?
